Kristiansund Mekaniske AS has its roots back to 1899. At that time Kristiansunds Baadbyggeri was started with the purpose of "building boats and smaller vessels". At the Landsbaatstevnet in Trondhjem in 1902 they received awards for their boats. In 1903, a slip was built. At the same time, the first steamboat built in Kristiansund is delivered. The workshop continues under alternating management. In 1932, the name Kristiansunds Mek. Workshop and Baatbyggeri A / S, and is more focused on mechanical service on boats and production of gear and propeller systems. Construction of smaller boats in wood is ongoing until the end of the 1960s in the form of tugboats. Production of gear units and propeller systems continues until about 1980.

In 1990 the name was changed to Kristiansund Mekaniske AS. The company is now a clean service workshop for all types of vessels operating in the area, as well as for the oil-related business.
